Karate is a Japanese martial art whose physical aspects seek the development of defensive and counterattacking body movements. The themes of traditional karate training are fighting and self-defense, though its mental and moral aspects target the overall improvement of the individual. This is facilitated by the discipline and persistent effort required in training.
The word karate is a combination of two kanji (Chinese characters): kara, meaning empty, and te, meaning hand; thus, karate means “empty hand.” Adding the suffix “-dō” (pronounced “daw”), meaning “the way/path,” karate-dō, implies karate as a total way of life that goes well beyond the self-defense applications. In traditional karate-dō, one is supposed to compete and strive to excel against him/herself.
It is a martial art that creates positive energy through a disciplined and peaceful way of the life. Karate do inspire and inculcates tolerance and understanding among its practitioners and hundreds of people that they interact in their daily life. The codes of karate bring in the universal values of character development, and personality development which gives confidence to implement integrity.
There is also no need to be in excellent physical shape to start since karate will gradually improve your fitness as you progress. Join us today to learn what Karate can do for your life; your starting point is less significant than the efforts you put out along the journey.
